Box Joins LAN as Director of Engineering

DALLAS, TX - January 24, 2011 - WastewaterPR.com - Thelma Flores Box, P.E., joins Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) as director of engineering for the firm’s Infrastructure Extended Texas Business Group. In this role, Box will direct the activities of infrastructure staff in the Dallas and Fort Worth offices of LAN.

Thelma Flores Box, P.E., joins Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) as director of engineering for the firm’s Infrastructure Extended Texas Business Group. In this role, Box will direct the activities of infrastructure staff in the Dallas and Fort Worth offices of LAN.

A nationally-renowned water and wastewater treatment expert, Box brings more than 25 years of experience in the development, design, construction and management of complex water and wastewater treatment projects for public sector clients. Prior to joining LAN, she served as the Dallas-Fort Worth municipal projects section leader, where she managed the planning, design and construction of projects with budgets of up to $50 million. She has worked on wastewater facilities ranging from small septic systems to large advanced wastewater treatment plants.

Box has participated in water treatment projects and provided assistance in complying with the requirements of the Information Collection Rule (ICR), a program created by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 1996 tosupport development of national drinking water standards that protect public health. She also has managed numerous Inflow and Infiltration studies (I/I) and Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Surveys (SSES) and has overseen the design of sewer rehabilitation projects that resulted from these studies. Additionally, she has taught continuing education courses on wastewater discharge permit applications, water quality, and water and wastewater laboratory and analytical procedures.

Box is involved in a number of distinguished professional associations and has received numerous awards conferred by these associations. She is an active member of the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and the Water Environment Association of Texas (WEAT). Her awards include the National Science Foundation award to study biological treatment processes used for water purification and nutrient removal, the Holly A. Cornell Award by the American Water Works Association (AWWA) for outstanding achievement and leadership in the field of water supply and treatment and the Lone Star Steel Environmental Award from the Environmental Institute for Technology Transfer for achievement in an environmental-related discipline. She has authored and presented various water and wastewater treatment papers at national conferences across the U.S.

Box is a doctoral candidate in civil and environmental engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). She holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from the UTA. She is a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas.
