Bio-Microbics, Inc., headquartered in Shawnee, Kansas, has been chosen for the 2011 Kansas Governor’s Exporter of the Year Award announced by Gov. Sam Brownback on June 29 at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas. The award, which annually recognizes a Kansas company for exceptional international marketing success, encourages the growth of the state’s international commerce by showcasing successful exporters as role models to the Kansas business community.

The Governor's Exporter of the Year Award highlights five Kansas companies for their outstanding international marketing achievements. The five finalists for 2011, announced by the Kansas Department of Commerce in conjunction with the Kansas International Trade Coordinating Council, are:

• Bio-Microbics, Shawnee, Kansas

• Bunting Magnetics, Newton, Kansas

• ICE Corp, Manhattan, Kansas

• KASA Controls, Salina, Kansas

• Premier Pneumatics, Salina, Kansas

As a highlight at the Kansas state's annual business celebration, sponsored by the Kansas Department of Commerce and the Kansas Cavalry - a group of volunteer business leaders, the award is one of two that are the state's top business honors, the other being the Governor's Award of Excellence awarded to AuBurn Pharmacy of Garnett, KS.

“In today's business environment as the marketplace becomes more global, older technologies and "schools of thought" fall by the wayside as proven products with more advantages enter the market,” said Robert J. Rebori, President of Bio-Microbics and Scienco/FAST – a division of Bio-Microbics, Inc. “To be recognized among so many other great Kansas companies and sharing our accomplishments and goals with the Kansas International Trade Coordinating Council (KITCC) is a great honor.”

Candidates are determined by first being nominated and completing a survey to determine effective use of international distributors or offices, foreign language promotional materials, innovations in global marketing, joint ventures, long-range strategies for future growth, new product, new export markets, percentage increase in jobs and sales, and participation in international expositions. Five finalists are selected to give a presentation about the company history, present experiences, and export initiatives/successes to the Council. Judging also includes evaluating each finalist’s workplace, touring the facilities and getting to know the culture of the company.

“Bio-Microbics is proud to receive this award, but really it’s an award for all of Kansas and those associated with exporting,” Rebori said. “Since our inception in 1996, we have focused on growing our international sales; and 15 years later, we are in over 50 countries. We look forward to the future and continue to expand introducing our products to underserved areas focusing on better water treatment. Participating in the EOTY award process for three years in a row, we are pleased to be named the winner this year during the 150 anniversary of Kansas’ Statehood.”
