On September 22, the Kansas Governor, Sam Brownback, visited its headquarters location to honor Bio-Microbics with the 2011 Kansas Exporter of the Year award. The company, founded in 1996 to commercialize wastewater and stormwater technology for decentralized homes and communities, is well represented in over 60 countries worldwide. In attendance were representatives from the Kansas International Trade Coordinating Council, Kansas Department of Commerce, the Mid-America Export Council, SBA (Small Business Association), International Trade Council – KC, among other vendors and Kansas businesses.
“It’s my privilege to be here today…to recognize what you’ve done here as a team, as Bio-Microbics,” Dr. Raffaele DeVito, Chair of the Kansas International Trade Coordinating Council said. “It’s considered as one of the most rigorous and prestigious national awards of its kind. I’ve looked around the country. No other award puts companies through this kind of pace at any level. You are to be commended and proud of what you’ve accomplished. It’s no small feat.”
Candidates are determined by first being nominated and completing a survey to determine effective use of international distributors or offices, foreign language promotional materials, innovations in global marketing, joint ventures, long-range strategies for future growth, new product, new export markets, percentage increase in jobs and sales, and participation in international expositions. Five finalists are then selected to give a presentation detailing the company history, present on cultural international experiences, and export initiatives/successes to the Council. Judging also includes evaluating each finalist’s workplace, touring the facilities and getting to know the culture of the company.
The award, which annually recognizes a Kansas company for exceptional international marketing success, was presented by the Governor at the annual Kansas' Business Celebration Dinner. It encourages the growth of the state’s international commerce by showcasing successful exporters as role models to the Kansas business community. Winners are selected because of their focus on innovation and contributions to economic growth, as well as community involvement.
“[Bio-Microbics] represents what we’ve got to do a lot more of…You’ve got an innovative product that you manufacture and sell and market around the world that makes other places better at a price they can afford,” says Gov. Sam Brownback. “That is what we’ve got to do.…and, you do it all over the world [to] over 60 countries. And, that’s why I am delighted to recognize [Bio-Microbics] as the Kansas Governor’s Exporter of the Year. Congratulations.”
“We are proud of our hard-earned reputation as being the leading decentralized treatment manufacturer in the world, but we are even more proud of our dedication and investment to doing business in a way that is healthy for our environment and community," said Robert J. Rebori, President of Bio-Microbics.
Besides its group of dedicated employees, Bio-Microbics shares its 2011 Kansas Exporter of the Year award with countless Kansas vendors and global business partners.
